When Loss Tries to Take You Too
Finding Purpose, Healing, and God’s Comfort in the Midst of Grief
Dealing with loss can be both life-changing and devastating—especially when one loss follows another. We often hear the saying, to lose is to gain and to gain is to lose. While someone may be preparing to gain their wings, the pain of losing them here on earth is still very real.
Even when our loved ones are no longer suffering, we miss their touch, their scent, their laughter, their voice—their entire being. Nothing and no one can replace them. Any attempt to do so would be counterfeit and not genuine. What we can do is savor the memories and cherish the moments we were blessed to share.
God’s Promise in the Pain
I know it hurts. I know life feels different now—or soon will. God never promised us a life of ease, but He did promise to comfort us and to never leave us. He is not a God who can lie. And I promise you—after a while, it will begin to make sense.
Grief has a way of testing your faith, your strength, and even your identity. It asks questions you didn’t prepare for and demands answers you don’t yet have. But even here—God is present.
My Breaking Point—and My Turning Point
When my mother went on to be with Jesus, I slipped into a deep depression and nearly lost my mind. I couldn’t sleep. I struggled to concentrate. At times, I wished I could join her.
Oh—but God. I said, but God.
I began to look at my children. I looked at my husband, my family, and my life. I saw the nurse that I am and the people I pray for and minister to daily. And in that moment, something shifted. Greatness dropped into my spirit.
Yes, I lost my mother.
Yes, I lost my father.
But I told Jesus, I am not about to lose myself.
Purpose Still Lives Here
Your life—and my life—is purpose-filled. I realized that even my momma would want me to live and not die. She lived long enough to say, “Baby, hold your head down. I need to pray for you.” And then she said, “Here—this is my mantle.”
Oh, glory to God.
Since then, I have been praying, laying hands, prophesying, encouraging others, and walking in the gift of healing. It has not been easy. I am constantly going through something—but it is how you go through that develops you.
Learning to Live Again
I love life.
I love people.
I love God.
But I also had to learn how to love me—my body, my soul, my whole being. When I fall, I get back up and try again, because there is no failure in Christ Jesus. Destiny is being fulfilled no matter what it looks like.
My children may not know what time it is—but I do. Because God talks to me, and I talk to God. He calls me friend. And because of that, I take every issue straight to the Father.
You Are Not Alone
If you are grieving, hear this: you are not alone. And when you are weak, that is when the strong must step in—to help you stand.
There is still purpose in your pain.
There is still life ahead of you.
And God is still writing your story.
A Moment to Reflect, Pray, and Respond
If this message resonated with you, I invite you to pause for a moment. Breathe. Reflect. And allow God to meet you right where you are.
If you are walking through grief, loss, or transition, know that you do not have to carry it alone. Reach out to someone you trust. Share this message with a friend who may need encouragement. And if you feel led, leave a comment or prayer request—because healing often begins when we choose not to suffer in silence.
A Prayer for the Grieving Heart
Father God,
I thank You for being close to the brokenhearted. You see every tear, every sleepless night, and every silent cry. I ask that You wrap Your loving arms around every reader who is grieving right now. Comfort them where it hurts most. Strengthen them where they feel weak. Restore hope where loss has tried to steal their joy.
Lord, remind them that their life is still purpose-filled and that You are not finished with them. Exchange their heaviness for peace, their sorrow for strength, and their mourning for joy in Your perfect time. We trust You, Father, even when we do not understand.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
